5 Great Tips for Choosing the Right Tile for Your Bathroom

Choose the Right Tile for Your Bathroom

When it comes to renovating a bathroom, nothing makes a more tremendous impression than tile – whether it’s on the wall, floor, around the tab or in the shower. The tile you choose for your bathroom has a great impact on both its functionality and style. Also, there is something comforting about having a gorgeous and practical bathroom.

However, choosing the right bathroom tile can be challenging. There are so many looks, materials and characteristics. The ideal bathroom tile is not only good-looking, but also durable, high-quality and, of course, water-resistant.

Here are some great tips to keep in mind when choosing bathroom tile.

1. Choose a Stand-out Tile

This is an easy way to begin choosing your bathroom tiles. You’ve probably found a pattern or color you like, or maybe a shape that you’ve fallen in love with. Don’t be afraid to select a tile that offers a whimsy texture or a bold color. This will become your feature tile in the room and will determine your accent tiles.

When choosing your accent tiles make sure you select something neutral, plain, and simple, which would complement your featuring tile. Avoid having too many bold tiles in a room, this will create too many focal points and will make it look cheap and unstylish.

2. Be Creative with Tile Layout

Think outside the box when considering your tile layout. While there is nothing wrong with standard tile layouts, by taking into account various non-conventional ways to lay your tiles, you can create an impressive bathroom design that will help out stand out.

There are so many patterns that can be created by using different shapes of tiles. Square is only one of the many tile shape options. Instead, consider linear or plank tiles, which can make your bathroom look longer. If you want to implement square tiles, opt for small mosaic tiles, and run it from the floor to the ceiling. The only real limit is your imagination!

3. Add Texture

Add textured tile to your bathroom to bring your design to the next level and give it a sense of luxury and sophistication. For a spa-like feel, consider a nature-inspired tile, such as natural stone tiles or marble effect tiles. You can also use natural wood or similar materials to create a firmly rooted in nature look.

However, if you are not willing to implement a textured tile in your entire bathroom, you might consider a textured featuring or accent wall instead. A mix of rough and smooth can be a better choice for larger bathrooms.

4. Consider Your Color Palette

Like any other room in the house, your bathroom deserves a very personal approach that suits your personality and your lifestyle. The colors you choose can really set the tone for the entire design and finished space.

However, when choosing your bathroom colors, keep in mind your oasis size as they can have a profound effect on your emotional well-being and can make your space look either smaller or larger.

Here are some tips that can help you choose the right color for your bathroom, depending on its size.

Designing For Small Bathrooms

The best way to visually expand the appearance of a small bathroom is to go with light colors and high-gloss finishes. It’s no secret that soft and light colors make a room airy and bright, while a glossy finish reflects light and can infuse your bathroom with more light than a matte finish.

Some of the best colors for small bathrooms are soft blues, greens, and turquoises. However, whites are among the most common colors used for small bathrooms. Warm or cool grays would also give a similar effect.

Designing Large Bathrooms

Everyone wants a large bathroom, but no one has any idea of how challenging it can be to make it feel cozy. Some colors won’t make it feel cozy at all and some can even make it feel larger. Dark colors can absorb light and help act as a decoy away from the fact that your space is large or disproportionate.

A wise decision would be to get one wall with a dark accent color and then lighter coordinating shades on the other three walls. To make your oasis feel cozier, choose warm colors such as gold, brown, orange and red. Bathroom are supposed to be intimate and relaxing, not cool and unapproachable.

5. Keep Cleaning in Mind

When choosing your tiles, keep in mind that some of them require more maintenance and have to be sealed. For instance, ceramic tile is easy to clean and less likely to get stained.

It is also important to note that tiles made from natural stone materials are more delicate and need to be sealed to increase their durability. However, if you are considering delicate tiles, have them installed on the floor or other sections that are less wet.
